The Silencing of Saint Livinus
This is Saint Livinus of Ghent. He was a Bishop of the early Catholic church somewhere in the 600s i think. He died trying to convert a bunch of pagans who (understandably) weren’t to stoked about having to denounce the old gods. So naturally, Saint Livinus lost his tongue and then his head. In my version i like to think his severed tongueless head continued to preach and is still mouthing the words even in death.
What excites me about saints is that they are points where religion meets folklore and Christianity meets paganism. Saints tend to be a strange blend of all of it. I love that Catholicism, one of the biggest monotheistic religions in the world is full of totally deified mortals. How great of a contradiction is that.
